Bolton Castle, Wensleydale, North Yorkshire, 1894. Bolton Castle was built in the late 14th century by Richard le Scrope, a prominent soldier and courtier during the reign of Richard II and Lord Chancellor of England from 1378-1382. Mary, Queen of Scots was held at the castle in 1568-1569. It was partially damaged during the English Civil War. From Beautiful Britain; views of our stately homes.
