Bisham Abbey, above Marlow, Berkshire, 1894. View of the manor house on the River Thames. Founded in the 13th century as a Preceptory of the Knights Templar, it was later a Benedictine abbey. The appearance of the house owes much to Sir Philip Hoby (died 1558) who gained the estate after the Dissolution. From Beautiful Britain; views of our stately homes.
