Dartmouth Castle and St Petroc's Church, Devon, 1894. Begun in the late 14th century, the castle stands on a rocky promontory which juts out into the Dart estuary. Built to protect the merchants of Dartmouth, it was one of the earliest castles designed with artillery in mind. From Beautiful Britain; views of our stately homes.
