The Great Hall, Edinburgh Castle, Edinburgh, Scotland, 1894. The Magne Camere or Great Hall, constructed in 1434, where in 1437 James II of Scotland was proclaimed King, in 1633 Charles I held his coronation banquet and in 1648 Oliver Cromwell was entertained. There has been a royal castle on Castle Rock since the reign of David I in the 12th century. The site continued to be a royal residence until the Union of the Crowns in 1603.
