Reculver Towers, Kent, 2010. View of the twin towers with rocks of the coastal defences in the foreground. Reculver Towers are the remainder of St Mary's Church, Reculver, which was founded in the 7th century but was demolished in 1809 due to the threat of coastal erosion. The church was built within the perimeter of an earlier Roman fort, which provided some of its original building materials.
