'Christ Church, Newgate, The Steeple', mid-late 19th century. One of a set of views of baroque London churches. Christ Church Greyfriars, in Newgate Street in the City of London, was established as a monastic church in the 13th century and became a parish church after the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It was rebuilt to the designs of Sir Christopher Wren after the previous building was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666.
