'The Poultry Compter', (1897). Poultry Compter was a small prison, run by a Sheriff of the City of London, from medieval times until 1815. Its name comes from its location on a section of Cheapside called Poultry. Metal restraints including leg-irons can be seen on the wall. From Old and New London, Volume I, by Walter Thornbury.
