'The Painted Chamber, 1830', (1881). The Painted Chamber in the Palace of Westminster was originally named the King's Chamber and was built in the 13th century. It came to be known as the Painted Chamber after its decorative wall paintings. These were later covered over, but were rediscovered at the beginning of the 19th century. The building was gutted by fire in 1834. From Old and New London: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, and Its Places. Westminster and the Western Suburbs, by Edward Walford, Vol. III.
