'Vanbrugh Castle', (c1878). Vanbrugh Castle was designed by architect John Vanbrugh (1664-1726) as his own residence. The house, on Westcombe Park Road in Maze Hill, Greenwich, (now part of south London), was built in a medieval style, in contrast to the Baroque style of many of Vanbrugh's commissions. From Old and New London: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, And Its Places. The Southern Suburbs, Volume VI, by Edward Walford. [Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., London, Paris & New York, c1878]
