Hangings and torture from 'Beschreibung der Ost-Indischem Kusten Malabar und Coromandel... als auch der Insel Zeylon...', pub. 1672 (engraving). possibly a religious conflict between Dutch and Spanish. A Jesuit named Caldero, a Native of Malacca, is beheaded and eleven others are seen hung for conspiring with him. Afterwards their bodies are exposed in the open country, while the heads of the ringleaders were 'fix'd upon Poles in the Market-place'; A True and Exact Description of the most celebrated East-India Coasts of Malabar and Coromandel and also of the Isle of Ceylon; Father Philippus Baldaeus (1632-1672) was a missionary and representative of the Dutch East India Company in Ceylon for 10 years.
