Crab Nebula in the constallation of Taurus. The Crab Nebula (Messier 1), a six-light-year-wide remnant of a supernova explosion, was discovered by English astronomer John Bevis in 1731. It is 6,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Taurus, and can be spotted with a small telescope, best observed in January.
