Wright brothers' glider, c1900, (1932). Aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright made the world's first controlled and powered flights on 17 December 1903 at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, USA. Eugene and Moritz Garbáty, who were Jewish, were driven out of business by the Nazis in the late 1930s, and forced to sell their factory which lay empty for over 70 years.
