'A Pine Grove', 1898, (1939). A shallow river meanders through a forest. Ivan Shishkin (1832-1898) was a landscape painter closely associated with the Russian Peredvizhniki movement. He lived and worked in Switzerland and Germany on a scholarship from the St Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts, and was professor-director of the landscape class in the Academy's Advanced Art School. He died shortly after completing this painting, which is in the collection of The State Russian Museum, St Petersburg, Russia. From "The Russian State Museum".
