In his early twenties, Arkhip Kuindzhi (1842-1910) worked as a retoucher in a photography studio and was later co-partner of the Peredvizhniki artists' co-operative. He lectured at the St Petersburg Academy of Arts but was dismissed for his support of students' protests. Painting in the collection of The State Russian Museum, St Petersburg, Russia.
