'Leonardo Da Vinci'', (1933). Portrait of Italian Renaissance artist, sculptor, engineer and inventor Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), whose scientific drawings featured ideas such as a spinning wheel and a flying machine. He dissected human bodies (which he used to produce accurate anatomical drawings), studied the properties of light and water and worked in Milan as an inspector of fortifications, and later in Florence as a military engineer. Only 17 of his completed paintings are known to survive, but all are regarded as masterpieces. They include the 'Mona Lisa' and 'The Last Supper'. After a self portrait made c1512-1515. From "Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte", a book of cigarette-card portrait miniatures of figures in world history from the last four hundred years. [Germany, 1933]
