Salisbury Cathedral, The Close, Salisbury, Wiltshire, c1955-c1980. Interior view of the cathedral nave, looking east towards the chancel, and showing the north and south arcades and vaulted ceiling. The image has been taken from the west end of the nave and looks down the length of the cathedral towards the chancel and Lady Chapel behind. On either side are the north and south arcades with tombs and effigies placed in between them. The foundations of this cthedral were laid in April 1220 to replace a wooden cathedral that have moved to the site from Old Sarum. It was completed in 1266 and had many component added later, such as the cloisters and chapter house, built between 1270-79.
