Mermaid Hotel, Rye, Rother, East Sussex, c1955-c1980. The south elevation of the Mermaid Hotel, a 15th century timber framed building with an interior courtyard, seen from the south-east on Mermaid Street. The image shows the whole of the south elevation, which has two storeys, attics and a five-window range on the first floor, and a wide entrance to the courtyard in the foreground. Beyond a window is the entrance with three steps from the cobbled street, and a sign overhead with a relief of a mermaid. The hotel carries on into a further building on the other side of the courtyard to the north.
