'Churchill "Wanted" ', 1899, (1945). Winston Churchill (1874-1965) was a journalist during the Second Boer War (1899-1902) in South Africa. He was captured at Estcourt, (KwaZulu-Natal Province), after the armoured train he was travelling in was ambushed by the Boers on 15 November 1899. On 12 December he managed to escape from the prison camp in Pretoria, boarded a passing goods train, and hid among empty coal sacks. This 'Wanted' poster was issued by the authorities, with a reward of £25 for his recapture 'dead or alive'. British politician and statesman Sir Winston Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, and again from 1951 to 1955.
