'Cromwell House on Highgate Hill, A Mansion of the Seventeenth Century', c1935. Large house in north London, built in 1638. John Ireton, the brother of Oliver Cromwell's favourite son-in-law, briefly lived in nearby Lauderdale House. This led to the building being known as Cromwell House in the early 19th century. In fact, Oliver Cromwell had no connection with the house. From "Wonderful London, Volume 3", edited by Arthur St John Adcock. [The Fleetway House, London, c1935]
