'The Battle of Minden, or Thornhausen, in Westphalia, where the Alied [sic] Army, commanded by Prince Ferdinand of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttle, obtain'd a Glorious Victory over the French Army, commanded by Marshal de Contades, August 1 1759', (1785). The Battle of Minden, during the Seven Years War, was fought at Minden (then in Prussia, now in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). An Anglo-German army under Prussian Field Marshal Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick-Wolfenbuttel (1721-1792) defeated a French army commanded by Marshal of France, Louis Georges Erasme, Marquis de Contades (1704-1795).
