'There was an Old Person of Dover...', c1840s. Limerick: 'There was an old person of Dover, Who rushed through a field of blue Clover; But some very large bees, Stung his nose and his knees, So he very soon went back to Dover'. Humorous poem written and illustrated by Edward Lear (1812-1888). Lear's "A Book of Nonsense", a volume of limericks, was first published in 1846.
