'Lewis VII., King of France, Before Becket's Tomb', (mid 19th century). King Louis VII of France (1120-1180) kneeling in prayer at the tomb of St Thomas Becket in Canterbury Cathedral. He is wearing an ermine-trimmed cloak decorated with fleurs-de-lis, his crown on the ground beside him. Becket was murdered in the cathedral in 1170. Engraving after a painting made c1800.
