Etruria Gas Works, Etruscan Street, Etruria, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, 1965-1968. A view looking south across the site with Holy Trinity Church, Hartshill visible in the distance. The gas works opened in 1904. In the years after the Second World War gas began to replace coal within the pottery industry, a trend that accelerated following the demise of coal-fired bottle kilns following the introduction of the Clean Air Act in 1956.
