Oriel Chambers, Water Street, Liverpool, Merseyside, c1955-c1980. View of the side elevation of the Oriel Chambers on to Covent Garden. Oriel Chambers is an office built in 1864 by Peter Ellis with a cast iron frame and stone cladding. The exposed iron shafts extend from the ground and form pinnacles on the roof, and this building is a good example of using cast iron in construction. The image shows bomb damage to the rear of the building, and has destroyed the top two floors of the eleven and twelfth bays, leaving the ground external walls intact.
