British photographer Ursula Clark, Durham Castle, County Durham, c1955-c1980. A portrait of Ursula Clark, with the castle in the background, taken from near Bridge House on the western side of Framwellgate Bridge, looking east. Durham Castle dates from the 11th century, and the west range, as shown, includes the kitchens and halls with entrances on the interior elevation, and was extended southwards in the late 13th century. The perpendicular north range includes the castle chapels, the earliest of which was built c1072 for William I. The castle has been part of the University College since the 19th century.
