'Joan of Arc Comes to the Court of the French King', c1930. King Charles VII of France receiving Joan of Arc (centre, wearing armour), at the Castle of Chinon in 1429. Joan (1412-1431) claimed to hear heavenly voices telling her that Charles would grant her an army to relieve the siege of Orleans.
