'Return of the Holy Carpet from Mekka to Cairo', 1876, (1965). Egyptian street scene showing a religious procession. The mahmal was a highly decorated covering mat or carpet for the Kaaba at Mecca in Saudi Arabia. A new one was made in Cairo each year.
