City Hall, Chicago, USA, 1895. Trams in front of the colonnaded exterior of City Hall, Randolph Street, Chicago, Illinois. The combined City Hall/County building was designed by James Egan. Construction started in 1875, and after many delays, was completed in 1885, but the building was beset with problems. In 1905, the foundations sank six inches, causing a gas pipe to rupture and resulting in an explosion that blew the roof off the building.
