'Prisoners from the Wyoming Valley', (1877). The Battle of Wyoming was fought between American Patriots on one side, and Loyalists accompanied by Iroquois Indians on the other. It took place in the Wyoming Valley of Pennsylvania on 3 July 1778 during the American Revolutionary War. The Iroquois took Patriot prisoners, and 'treated the defenseless ones, the woman and children, with a degree of humanity almost hitherto unparalleled'.
