'Mrs. Heald and the Savages at Chicago', (1878). The Battle of Fort Dearborn took place on 15 August 1812 near what is now Chicago, Illinois, and was fought between US troops and Potawatomi Native Americans. The Potawatomi burned down the Fort, and attacked the garrison party, killing many and taking others prisoner. Garrison commander Nathan Heald and his wife Rebekah were among those captured. They were later sold to the British and released. From "Our Country: a Household History for All Readers, from the Discovery of America to the Present Time", Volume 3, by Benson J. Lossing.
