'Green Island, Lake George, New York', c1897. Green Island is a town in Albany County, New York. The first European to the area, Samuel de Champlain, noted Lake George in the Adirondack Mountains in his journal it was later named by William Johnson who led British colonial forces to occupy the area and named the lake after King George II of England.
