'Lord Roberts and his Daughters at Pretoria', 1900, (1901). British soldier Frederick Sleigh Roberts (1832-1914) fought the Boers in South Africa, 1899-1900. As Earl Roberts' sons had predeceased him, the Earldom was allowed to pass down the female line and Aileen (1870-1944) became the 2nd Countess Roberts in 1914. From "The Life and Deeds of Earl Roberts, Vol. IV. - To Lord Roberts's Reign in Pall Mall", by J. Maclaren Cobban. [T. C. & E. C. Jack, Edinburgh, 1901]
