'Tower of St Giovanni degli Eremiti, Palermo', 1906. The church, in Palermo, southern Italy, was founded in the 6th century but became a mosque after the Arab conquest of Sicily. The Islamic influence is notable in the architecture of the building, which became a Christian church again after the Normans conquered the island in the 12th century.
