Northern Goldsmiths, 3 Blackett Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, c1955-c1980. An exterior view of the Northern Goldsmiths, showing the corner of the building with domed canted turret and signs for the shop over the ground floor, and a partial view of the elevations fronting Pilgrim Street and Blackett Street. The building was built in c1895 by James Cackett and later altered in c1932 by Burns Dick and Mackellor, and includes the shop on the ground floor, and office and workshop space on the remaining three floors above. The curved corner in the centre of the building had a blind entrance on the ground floor, and cantilevered clock on the first floor, topped with a small statue of a female figure added c1932. Over the third floor windows is a large sign for Rolex watches, and above is a circular cupola with an arcade of round-headed arches and a domed roof. On either side, the bays are structured 2:4 leading away from the corner bay, with the two closer bays topped with a wide pediment.
