June - the palace and the Sainte-Chapelle, 15th century, (1939). 'Juin - Le Palais Et La Sainte-Chapelle'. Barefoot peasants hay-making in the fields: men wield scythes as they cut the grass, and women rake it and gather it into piles. In the background is Paris, with the Hôtel de Nesle, Paris residence of the Duc de Berry (now the Palais de Justice), the orange conical towers of the Conciergerie, and the Gothic Sainte Chapelle on the right. A page from the "Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry", a book of hours produced for Jean, Duc de Berry and commissioned from the Limbourg brothers. Made between c1412 and 1489, and regarded as one of the finest examples of European manuscript illumination, it is held at the Musee Condé, Chantilly, France. Published in "Verve - No. 7, Vol. II".
