August - the Château d'Étampes, 15th century, (1939). 'Aout - Le Chateau D'Etampes'. Nobles ride out on a falconry expedition: the man on the right is a beater with long stick to flush out the game. People swim in the river beyond, with peasants mowing and loading sheaves. In the distance is the 12th-century château at Étampes in northern France which was aquired by the duc de Berry in 1400. A page from the "Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry", a book of hours produced for Jean, Duc de Berry and commissioned from the Limbourg brothers. Made between c1412 and 1489, and regarded as one of the finest examples of European manuscript illumination, it is held at the Musee Condé, Chantilly, France. Published in "Verve - No. 7, Vol. II".
