September - the Château de Saumur, 15th century, (1939). 'Septembre - the Chateau de Saumur'. Grape harvest in the vineyards: people gather grapes in baskets, donkeys carry them in panniers, and a cart pulled by oxen takes the fruit to be pressed into wine. In the background is the chateau at Saumur in the Loire region of western France which still produces some of the best wines in the country. A page from the "Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry", a book of hours produced for Jean, Duc de Berry and commissioned from the Limbourg brothers. Made between c1412 and 1489, and regarded as one of the finest examples of European manuscript illumination, it is held at the Musee Condé, Chantilly, France. Published in "Verve - No. 7, Vol. II".
