September - an ill-matched couple, 15th century, (1939). A grey-haired old man surrounded by buzzing flies caresses the hand of a young woman wearing a bridal headpiece as a dog watches through an open window. The vine sprig, glass of wine and basket full of apples represent August's main farming products. Is this a financially motivated relationship, in which the currency is apples instead of gold? Detail of a page from the "Heures de Charles d'Angoulême", a book of hours commissioned by Charles of Orléans (1459-1496), with miniatures mostly painted by Robinet Testard, and now in the Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. Published in "Verve - No. 8, Vol. II". [Verve, France, 1939]
