'The Corinthian Maid', 1782-1784, (1930). The Ancient Greek potter Butades' daughter, Kora of Sicyon (c650 BC), is believed to have drawn the charcoal silhouette of her sleeping lover's face on a wall. Her father then used the outline to model the face of the youth in clay, considered to be the first relief sculpture. Kora may be the first female artist there is evidence of. Painting in the National Gallery of Art, Washington DC. From "The Connoisseur", Volume 86, edited by C. Reginald Grundy. [The Connoisseur Ltd, London, 1930]
