Sosie, 1868. The character of Sosie in "Amphitryon", a theatrical comedy by Jean Baptiste de Molière. "Amphitryon" is based on the story of the Greek mythological character of the same name in the play by Plautus, written c190-185 BCE. The character of Sosie was portrayed by Molière himself in the comedy's first production in 1668. The French word 'Sosie' means look-alike: the character is a doppelgänger of the God Mercury. From "Oeuvres Complètes De Molière", (Complete Works of Molière), with an introduction by Jules Janin. [F. de P. Mellado, Paris, 1868]
