Convicts mutinying, 1930. 'Une Mutinerie De Forçats'. Prisoners on board the ship "La Martinière" attempt to strangle a guard. Convicts were transported to the infamous Devil's Island penal colony in French Guiana between 1852 and 1946. Held in steel cages below deck, there was more than one mutiny aboard the 'horror ship' Martinière. Cover of "Le Petit Journal Illustré". [France, 2 February 1930]
