Moifaa, 1911. Portrait of Moifaa, a New Zealand-bred racehorse who won the 1904 Grand National by eight lengths. Moifaa had travelled from New Zealand, only to be shipwrecked 50 miles off the coast of Ireland. The horse was discovered on a rocky outcrop off the coast, and it was believed he had swum to get there. He was carefully nursed back to health, and went on to win the National at Aintree Racecourse, ridden by Arthur Birch.
