The sleeping Ziethen, (1936). 'Der Schlafende Ziethen'. Cavalry officer Ziethen sleeps at the table of Frederick the Great. Hans Joachim von Zieten (1699-1786) also known as Zieten aus dem Busch, was a cavalry general in the Prussian Army. He served in four wars and was instrumental in several victories during the reign of King Frederick the Great of Prussia (1712-1786), most particularly at Hohenfriedberg and Torgau. When he allegedly fell asleep at the table, Frederick told the other guests to let Ziethen sleep as he had done so much for his country. From "Bilder Deutscher Geschichte", (Pictures of German History), No.12, cigarette card album. [Cigaretten-Bilderdienst, Altona-Bahrenfeld, Hamburg, Germany, 1936]
