The Surrender at Sedan Castle, 2 September 1870, (1936). 'Die Kapitulation Der Festung Sedan, 2 September 1870'. During the Franco-Prussian War, the Château de Sedan in north-eastern France was surrounded by the Prussian army on 1 September. Napoleon III surrendered the following day in the small neighbouring city of Donchery. Here Prussian Chancellor Otto von Bismarck, Prussian Generalfeldmarschall Helmuth von Moltke, and the French General Emmanuel Félix de Wimpffen discuss terms.
