The Surrender at Sedan Castle, 2 September 1870, (1936). 'Die Kapitulation Der Festung Sedan, 2 September 1870'. During the Franco-Prussian War, the Château de Sedan in north-eastern France was surrounded by the Prussian army on 1 September. Napoleon III surrendered the following day in the small neighbouring city of Donchery.
