French emperor Napoleon III (1808-1873) surrendered the day after the town of Sedan in north-eastern France was surrounded by the Prussian army. Here Prussian Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898) accompanies Napoleon to a meeting with King Wilhelm I of Germany. In the foreground is the body of a French zouave.
