Ernest Shackleton with James Marr and Norman Mooney, 1921, (1935). British explorer Shackleton (1874-1922) with boy scouts 'Marr and Mooney, specially chosen to accompany the expedition'. On 17 September 1921 the Shackleton-Rowett Expedition left England on the 'Quest', its purpose to circumnavigate the Antarctic continent. The expedition reached Madeira the following month where Mooney was put ashore due to seasickness. Shackleton died on 5 January 1922.
