The opening of Dail Eireann, or Chamber of Deputies, of the Irish Free State Parliament in Dublin, Ireland, 9 September 1922, (1935). 'Mr William Thomas Cosgrave was elected President. The building, Leinster House, was closely guarded, owing to the general disturbances, and, as in a fortress, the Government continued to operate under these conditions for nearly a year'.
