'View Near Ispahan', 1890. Isfahan flourished from 1050 to 1722 under the Safavid dynasty and is known for its Perso-Islamic architecture. During 16th and 17th century, Pigeon Towers were built to supply guano as fertiliser for the city’s famous fields of watermelons.
