'The Great Mosque, Cordova', 1890. Construction of the Great Mosque of Cordoba was ordered in 784 by Abd al-Rahman I and expanded by later Muslim rulers.Following the Reconquista in 1236, the building was converted to a Roman Catholic church with a Renaissance cathedral nave added in 16th century.
