'William Tell in the Market-Place of Altdorf', 1890. 14th century Swiss folk hero of who, according to legend, was an expert marksman who assassinated Albrecht Gessler, a tyrant of the Austrian dukes who placed his hat on a pole, and ordered the people to bow before it.
